Battle Standard of the Gruumshaman. A common magic item for large bands of orcs is a Battle Standard of the Gruumshaman. These grim battle standards are eight-foot tall poles with a crossbar to which a banner may be fastened. The standard is topped with an eye motif (e.g., a carved wooden eye, a skull with an eye painted upon it) according to the creating adept or cleric’s inspiration. The battle standards are created by high level clerics or adepts of Gruumsh, and it is said that the standards allow Gruumsh to see through the eye image, to watch his children fight victoriously against their enemies. When orcs carry these standards, they are usually bedecked with other trophies such as fingerbones and good-luck charms. The banner may be held in one hand, or may be tied to the standard-bearer’s back when a battle is expected. The Standard adds the benefit of a bless spell to any orc in a 25ft radius of the standard. Caster Level:1; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Bless. It should be noted that orcs have no compunction about letting such banners touch the ground, especially if the orcs need to hide.
